Cleopatra Headpiece

[Cleopatra Headpiece]

I hope to get a clearer picture of my headpiece soon....

The Cleopatra headpiece is a simple yet elegant accoutrement. I picked mine up in Montreal, but if you know how to crochet, making your own should be a breeze.

  • First, make or nab yourself an appropriately coloured basic doily about the size of a dessert plate.
  • Run crocheted strands (or even thin ribbons) of the same colour down along the circumference. When the doily is on your head, the strands along your bangs should reach to just above the eyebrows. The rest of the strands should be about shoulder length.
  • Glue or sew on pea-sized metallic beads to the top and bottom of each strand. These will add weight to the strands, and will also make them nice and flashy. Scatter more beads at varying heights along the longer strands.
  • Glue/sew on more beads to the top of the headpiece in symmetrical radiating patterns.

When you wear this headpiece, make sure you have a lot of bobbypins. If you don't, your headpiece will go spinning off your head like some mad, glitzy spider. You'll need plenty of pins to hold the top in place, but you should also pin down some of the strands bordering your face. Otherwise, in mid-dance, you may end up with your mouth or eyes full of beads.
