Middle Eastern Dance (Belly Dance) - Fredericton, NB

Mixed level (beginner through intermediate) classes begin on Wednesday, September 17 at the GoodLife Fitness Centre for Women, upstairs at the Superstore on the corner of Smythe and Dundonald. Classes run from 7:30-8:30 and are $60 for six weeks ($50 for GoodLife members), or $12 per class. For more information, contact Shantell at shanmonster@bigfoot.com. Full Moon Belly Dancing - Moncton, NB

Every month, on the eve of the full moon, Studio Sephira hosts a party for female students and their girl-friends. The party lasts from 9:30-10:30 on weeknights, and from 9:30-11:30 on weekends. The evening is filled with candles, music, food, conversation, laughter, and dance. Simply bring a donation or a snack to enter and join the fun!

Workshop with George Sawa, Moncton, NB

Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003

9:00-11:00 - Technique on how to play the darabukka and Egyptian rhythms with George Sawa Workshop designed for people who have never played this instrument before or for those who want to reinforce their technique. Dancers will also benefit from this workshop for the Egyptian rhythms and understanding of music. Bring your darabukka or frame drum.

11:30-2:30 - Egyptian rhythms and Middle Eastern dance workshop taught with live instruments. George Sawa will teach Egyptian rhythms using live instruments like the kanoon, nay, and darabukka. He will also be talking about the characteristics of dancers in the Middle East. Students will be learning the rhythms and combinations of dance movements to follow these rhythms. Nada Lanteigne will be assisting George with the dance part of this workshop.
