Arabian Melodies: Belly Dance [DVD] - "Fans of Suhaila Salimpour will be delighted to see that this obscure video from about 20 years ago is now available on DVD. Suhaila looks very young on this (she was probably about 18 or 19 when it was made), and she looks as beautiful as ever." Includes performances by Souhaila Salimpour (Soukara), Alia (Fantasy Dance), Sahra (Amani), Shadiah (A Dance From Hollywood), and Vivian Michelle (Fantasy Dance).

Bellydance Superstars [DVD]. "The price was VERY reasonable for a belly dance video." "The camera work over all is extremely annoying. The camera person used constant close-ups and sometimes the dancer danced out of the shot. At a few points, the camera jerked violently when the camera man made an obvious mistake and lost the dancer. The camera work seemed very amateur. The close-ups made the dancing seems vulgar, despite the fact that all these dancers are very classy. The props such as candle holders were sometimes used in the foreground, which covered the dancer up. Several times you had to watch the dancer through shier fabric. Either the camera man was on crack, or they thought the dancing wasn't interesting enough to go without annoying camera tricks. Rachel's skill was not shown to its full potential. Her drum solo was so cut-up by CONSTANT camera changes that it's very hard to follow. It seemed to be the worse chopped up of all the segments. I could tell it was amazing, but I couldn't follow it."

Bellydance Superstars Live in Paris at the Folies Bergere [DVD]. "This video is of utmost highest production quality as well as the quality of the performers themselves. There is a very large variety of solo and group performances; cabaret and tribal performances. Something for everyone. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of dance styles; not only with the glitz versus fusion, but I absolutely loved the polynesian and bollywood numbers. To think that a group of people half way across the world in the tropical islands created a dance very similar to those of the desert of the middle east and I think that's what they were trying to do in incorporating them into the show. I was particularly impressed with Bellyqueen, and it's always a pleasure to see Jillina and Ansuya in action. I must say I was exhausted after watching Petite Jamilla spin (and spin and spin)in her double veil performance; watching it made me dizzy."

The Golden Apple: Bellydance Stars of New York. The DVD includes almost an hour of performances by NYC performers Neon, Jehan, Jenna, and Blanca, as well as a jam session with the skilled and talented Taksim ensemble. The production values are strong, and although the camera rarely holds still, cuts and pans are not obtrusive. Face shots are kept to a minimum. The focus is generally on the dancer, or the part of her body doing a particular movement. The sound quality is excellent, whether the music is live (ie. with Taksim's jam session) or canned.

A Night at the Casablanca by Donna Sayada. "This video is a compilation of perfomances by extremely talented dancers. Both Egyptian and Turkish dance styles are represented, as are several other styles. Beautiful."
