Mudslide wipes out Colombia chicken farm
June 5, 1998 BOGOTA (Reuters) - At least 60,000 chickens were buried alive in southwest Colombia when a mudslide wiped out the farm where they were being raised, local media said Wednesday. The domestic news agency Colprensa said the disaster occurred late Tuesday on the Pimpollo chicken farm in Valle province, which was buried under mud and water after a rain-swollen river jumped its banks. Only 35 chickens, all just 11 days old, were saved, the agency said.
