Landlord sets 'witch' on fire to save her soul

A Hungarian landlord suffered severe burns after he tried to set a woman tenant on fire because he believed she was a witch.

The man went to one of the flats he owned and told the woman who rented it that he had discovered she was a witch - and that the only way to save her soul was to set her on fire.

The woman fled the house when he produced a petrol can and tried to pour two litres of fuel over her.

But in the struggle he managed to spill most of the petrol over himself which ignited when he struck a match.

Neighbours wrapped blankets around the man to smother the flames and he is now recovering in hospital.

Police say they will charge him with attempted murder as soon as his condition improves.
