The Werewolves of VaudThe Werewolves of VaudIn 1670, a twelve-year old boy claimed both he and his mother could turn themselves into wolves. When questioned, however, he claimed he had stopped all forms of maleficum "ever since they had installed a new schoolmaster." Fortunately, in 1653, a Vaud pasot had argued that "lycanthropy was merely a form of melancholia, purely illusory, and that it had nothing at all to do with witchcraft." The boy's claims were not taken seriously (Otten 164). Lost? The Werewolves of Vaud copyrighted 1998 to Shantell Powell. |
